I am very disappointed. I wanted to run my first murder mystery party, but because these are designed so that "anyone could be the murderer," it means that there is no meat to the story. The answers for innocent versus guilty guests are basically the same except the guilty person says "so that's why I killed him" at the end. It's inane.
The only additions to the "guilty" answers are that the guests admit to having murdered someone else before the party. However, all of the guests have murdered someone else before the game starts, whether they admit it or not, which is why the host calls them there. So, how is that an indication of guilt? They're all murderers already, but that's not relevant to the case at hand.
There's no deduction at all, and none of the clues matter. The "evidence" is irrelevant. Can someone explain to me how people are supposed to solve this?
I'd really like to get a refund for my purchase, because a murder mystery isn't a murder mystery if all answers are correct. It's an exercise in futility and frustration.
Also, I believe most of these reviews are fake, but that is my opinion. I can't imagine this being much fun, and I feel duped for having bought it.
We used this for a student theater mixer and had a real fun time! I worked really well for our group of about 50 people. Favorite part: the character name puns. Least Favorite: It was essentially impossible to solve the mystery.
It was a great time and great theme but the mystery itself couldn't be solved in any reasonable way.
We did the masquerade murder mystery. This was my first one with Broadway Murder Mysteries. I’ve hosted a few other murder mysteries before from other companies. This one was my least favorite as far as what was given with the download.
There were some errors in the clues (names from other murder mysteries they must have put in by accident) and the names were completely cheesy - in a bad way. I changed all the names to things more dignified (it is a masquerade, after all.).
Some of the name changes I made:
Sosi Thru to Scarlet Lacewell
Avocat o’pare to to Alexandy Greenleaf
Gann Dolph to Jasper Enchante
Spark Lee to Vivienne Sterling
It was also a little frustrating having designations on what the masks should look like. For example, animal print. I wanted my guests to feel free to wear what they wanted to and not be limited by their masks. This caused me to have to make changes too. I probably spent about 20 hours making changes to what was given. It would have been quicker for me to create one from scratch using Chat GPT. I didn’t realize how much work it would be until I continued to dig deeper and deeper.
I’m going to try out another of the mysteries since I paid for the full year, but I won’t recommend this company to others based on my experience with the masquerade.
The game’s details were spot on and so much fun!!! Loved it
What a fantastic game! The masquerade theme really set the stage for an exciting murder mystery game.
Broadway Murder Mysteries, where YOU are the show! Broadway Murder Mysteries was created in March of 2020 when many Broadway performers, writers, and talent were out of work. The Broadway shut down had a huge impact on the theater community, and Broadway Murder Mysteries was created to give jobs to out of work talent, while creating something inherently theatrical that theater and mystery fans would love.
