How to Host A Murder Mystery Party for Kids

How to Host A Murder Mystery Party for Kids

Throwing a murder mystery party for kids can be a fun and exciting way to celebrate a special occasion or just have a fun day with friends.

Here are some tips on how to organize a successful murder mystery party for kids:

Choose a theme: Choose a theme that is appropriate for kids and that will keep them engaged and interested. Themes like a detective agency, a spooky castle or a treasure hunt are popular and exciting for kids. We created our Camp Moss-Keto Mystery of the Missing Calamine Trophy game for ages 8 and up, and our 80s Roller Rink Murder Mystery game is a great option for ages 12 and up! Explore our complete collection of murder mystery games for kids here!

Prepare the materials: If using one of our murder mystery party kits for kids, you can simply download and print all the materials you need to host the party. Be sure to start with the host guide, which will give you specific instructions on how to host your murder mystery party.

Send out invitations: Send out invitations to the party with details of the theme, dress code, and what the guests should expect at the party. Be sure to include a character name for each guest, which they will play during the party. All our games include fillable PDF invitations that you can download and send to guests via email or print and mail.

Decorate the venue: Set up the venue to fit the theme of the murder mystery party. For example, if you are hosting our 80s Roller Rink party, decorate the venue with 80s party decor, inflatable cell phones, colorful streamers and other fun decorations.

Provide props and costumes: Provide props and costumes for the kids to wear that fit the theme of the party. You can either ask the kids to bring their own costumes or provide them with costume pieces yourself.

Serve food and drinks: Serve food and drinks that fit the theme of the party. This could include finger foods, mocktails, and themed desserts. If doing our 80s Roller Rink game, think about getting a cake made in the shape of a roller skate!

Award prizes: Award prizes to the kids who solve the mystery or show up in the best costumes. All our games include award certificates and you could choose to include small toys, candy, or prizes.

Remember to keep the murder mystery party age-appropriate and ensure that all the kids are having fun and staying safe. For younger kids, choosing a theme that’s “murder-free” may be a good choice. Or choose a murder mystery game for teens that will be fun without the gore, like our 80s Roller Rink game. With a little planning and preparation, a murder mystery party for kids can be a memorable and exciting experience for all involved!
